Auckland, last night The Auckland RaoiDg Club has bought ■ about 17 acres of land adjoining tbe Ellerslie couise, formerly used for Agrieul- '»■- tural Shows, the price being Applications for the position of secretary of the club havo been reduced to less than six. Petitions have been received from 56 bookmakers,asking for a general meeting to reconsider the exclusion of bookmakers from the course. The meeting will be held at an early date. Mr Henrys was appointed depnty-handicaper. In regard to the death of Geo. Fletcher, fouod dead at Penrose railway crossing, a verdict of accidental death was returned. The engine driver said he had observed nothing.
Napierjlast night. Mr B. Coyle has been appointed handicapper for the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Summer Meetiog. Palmerston North, last night. At a meeting of tbe Wellington Provincial Executive to day the President reported on correspondence in connection with the Harvester Trust, and his being interviewed by tbe representatives of the manufacturers, and he also referred to the proposed conference. After a lengthy discussion the following resolution was passed that, while there is no wish to refase to attend the proposed conference or have representatives present, this Executive considers that sufficient notice has not been given of the intention to hold a conference ; that the snbjeota for discussion have not been formulated, aud that there is no basiß of representation, and UDtil these matters are deoided any conference would be premature.
