(Per Press Association.) Wellington, yesterday.

After the telegraph office olosed, in committee on the Land for Settlement Act Extension Bill, Mr Herrieß moved a new clause giving natives or half-oastes who draw a section in a ballot full powers of alienation. This was added to the Bill on the voices. Mr Seddon said he would use bis best endeavors tp have the clause deleted in " another place.” Mr Taylor moved a new clause on behalf of Mr Millar, providing that in future all laud settlement shall be leased for 21 years, with the right of renewal for a similar period, and that at the expiration of 42 years the lease should be put up to publio competition. This was negatived by 36 to 14. A new olause was moved by Mr Baume, providing that in future laud for settlement should not bo disposed of by lease in perpetuity, but should be open to selection on the system of occupation with right of purobase. Mr McKenzie urged that such an important proposal should not be deoided at an early hour of the morning, and moved to report progress. This was oarried by 29 to 20, and the House rose at 3.30 Bim.

AFTERNOON SITTING,

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night, The Oounoil met at 2.80. After further lengthy debato, the Shops and Offices Bill was committed. The House met at 2.80.

A Governor’s message was brought down ooniaining an amendment to the Workers' Dwelling Bill increasing the amount to be expended in the erection of workmen’s homes from £3OO to £350. The remainder of the afternoon was ocoupiod in formal business. EVENING SITTING.

The Council resumed at 7.30,

In committee on the Shops and Offioes Bill an amendment was carried to allow female assistants to be employed in refreshment rooms after nine o’clock at night.

Colonel Pitt pointed out that this would not permit refreshment room keepers to keep employers at work right through, but would enable them to workia shifts. The House resumed at 7.30.

The Medical Practitioners Eegistration Bill passed through committee without material amendment.
