WAIROA RACING CLUB.
At the annual meeting of the Olub the balanoe sheet showed the Olub to be in an excellent financial position. A sum of £3OO is on fixed deposit and £23 4s 5d is in hand. Over £l2O was spent on the course and in buildings during the past year. On the motion of Mr A. G. Smith, seconded by Mr H. Summerfiold (reports the Guardian), it was deoided to recommend to the consideration of the committee improvements mentioned in the report. Considerable discussion ensued on the question of defining the district races, and eventually it was decided tbat the owners of district horses must have resided in the district the six months immediately preceding the races, that the horses must have been in the district and legally owned by the nominators from the Ist of October, 1903, further that the said horses must not leave the district without a permit from the secretary. The advisability of making the meeting aback gathering also created disoussion. Mr Webb moved, and Mr Williams seconded, that the programme for the next race meeting be framed as a hack meeting with the exception of tbe ' two district races, which shall be open events.
Mr A. G. Smith moved as an amendment, and Mr Storey seconded pro forma, that there be no open races. For the amendment there voted five, and for the motion seven; the two district races are therefore open events. Mr A. E. Eeckett moved, and Mr Webb seconded, tbat the totalisator tickets this year be 10s instead of £l. For the motion only two voted, and ten against; the proposal was therefore rejected.
It was stated that if 10s tickets were adopted, the club would lose about £SO in fractions.
On the motion of Mr Hague, it was decided that there must be Bix or more horses (instead of five) before a second dividend is paid. The following officers were then elocted : President, Mr G. 0. Ormond; 'vice-presi-dent, Mr G. Britnell; committee, Messrs P. Crater, A, E. Beckett, A. G. Smith, L. Storey, P. H, Sumtnerfield, T. 0. Webb, L. Williams, J. L. Matthews, A. Hague, and Dr Somerville.
