WELLINGTON SPECIAL.
WAIKAREMOANA PETITION. .(Special to Time* Wellington, last night. The Hon. J. Oarroll to-day presented to Parliament a petition from John Townley, Mayor of Gisborne, and 270 others, praying thatjWaikaremoana be included in the list of schemes, of development of electrical energy from water power.
DISTINGUISHED OFFICER. I Leut. Colonel R. H. Owen, officer commanding the military school of instruction which he established, has terminated his engagements to the New Zealand Defence Department, and intends returning to England on the 25th November. Six years ago 1 Colonel Owen, who held the rank of Major in the South Lancashire Regiment came to the colony under three years engagment, and subsequently was re-engaged for another three years. On his return to the Old Country he, will join the army reserve, I but may ultimately return and settle I in New Zealand.
