.(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. As a result of heavy rains the streets in tbo south-eastern part of the oity and through the suburbs of Woolston and Opawa wore covered with water and slush inohes deep. An application wa3 made to the Licensing Committee to-day under seotion 63 of the Licensing Act, 1904, to allow a licensee, a Jew, to close the bar of his hotol on certain Jewish holidays, The chairman said ho could not advise the oommittee to grant permission to close the hotel altogether on tbe days specified, for the licensee might turn out all his boarders. The oommittee granted permission to close tbo bar on the days mentioned.
