SUICIDE MANIA.
WOMEN TAKE PHOSPHORUS. (Per Press Association.) Auokland, last night. A girl named Florence Neal pieaded guilty at the Police Court to having attomptod to oommit suioide at Chelsea on the 9th inst. Mr Brookfield appeared for tbo girl, He said the girl had had trouble •with her lover, and bad foolishly deoided to commit suioide. The parents desirod that she should be kept under control. The girl bad expressed herself willing to goto the Door of Hope. Sub Inspector Black said the girl had been left by her mother in the house with some ohildren for a time. Tho mother, on her return, had found her daughter ill in bed, It was found she had taken Borne match heads. The magistrete convicted her, and ordered her to oome up for sentence when called upon. This was done on the understanding that Bhe would go to the Door of Hope for three months.
A siDglo woman, Elizabeth Jane Bennett, died at Mount Albert. She complained of being in pain, and her Bißter discovered a oup in the wash-house containing phosphorus. Emetics wore administered, but the woman died before the doctor arrived. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
