THE £IOOO CLAIM GETS MODIFIED.

The libel oose Bedford, M.H.R., v. Twomey, claim £IOOO for libel, alleged to have been contained in an artiole headed " The Soiled Doves,” which appeared in defendant's paper, has been settled. The oase was to como on for hearing before Judge Denniston at Timaru to-day, but a settlement, whioh has been in progress for the past two days, was arrived at this morning. Messrs Adams and; Stewart, of DunodiD, were engaged as counsel for plaintiff, and Mr Raymond, of Timaru, for I defendant. The terms of settlement are that defendant apologises and pays all reasonable and agreed upon costs. It has been agreed at the same-time that this should apply also to tbe case pending by Mr Taylor against defendant, blit Mr Tay- I lor is to got £SO in addition to bis 00Bts, I and an apology is to be tendered by de-j fendant to Mr Lanrenson. .
