CONDITION OF NEW SOUTH WALES.

The Treasurer’s statement states that the current year will be the severest financially that yet had been encountered. Only with the utmost oare would they evade reverting to the long period of deficiencies associated with the finances. The process of administrative reform daring tho past year had exhausted the ohannels of economies, and it was now necessary for Parliament to deal with legislative reforms designed to effeot economies. They mast eoonomise or tax. In last year’s estimates departmental economies saved £163,000, and the year closed with a surplus Of £187,000. The estimated reoeipts for the ooming year totalled £11,327,000, and the expenditure £11,407,000. He hoped to save £BO,OOO by departmental economies and £50,000 by legislation. The loan expenditure for the past year was £3,638,000, of which £1,500,000 had been spent on works, and the balanoe on renewals and repayments.
