RIFLE RANGE TRAGEDY.
GRUE3OME OPENING CEREMONY. A MARKER SHOT DEAD. (Per,? Press Association. 1 ) 1 Nelson, last night. A fatal accident ocourrnd on Saturday at the opening of the new ranges by the Waikatu Mountod Rifles at Stoke. There was a considerable attendance and the wife of Oapt. Trask fired the first shot, after which firing was continued. One shot was not marked, and after there being no response to other shots en examination was made with the result that the marker was found dead, having been shot through the head. The marker was named Charles Mills, aged about 34 years, and leaves a widow and four ohildren. (He was in the trench, but it is thought he was walking towards the target with the flag. There will be an enquiry on Monday.
