EMPLOYERS’ FEDERATION.
,(Pers Press 'Association.') • Wellington, last night. - The annual conference of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation opened today. The following 'resolutions were adopted That in the, opinion of this Federation the old principle of the indenture of apprenticeship is now obsolete and Bhould bo abolished; we strongly recommend the certificate system, which has been recently adopted by the Arbitration Court in cases where limitation or regulation of employment of young persona is insisted upon; that this Federation strongly affirms the principle of payment for services rendered; it does not objeot to payment of overtime, but where over- ' time prevails wages should be determined by the number of hours actually worked; that subject to the provisions of the Factories’ Act, we insist that it is unfair that employers Bhould have to pay for holidays when no value is rendered; that the polioy of preference to unionists, being contrary to individual rights of a citizen, and it having been declared to be ultra vires by the highest authority in the Common wealth, this Federation ogrees to contest this demand on every possible oeoasion ; that employment of young people in various trades or occupations calling for such employment ebould not in any way be restricted unless it can be shown to the satisfaction of the Arbitration Court that suoh employment would be detrimental Co the individual so employed.
