EDUCATIONAL MATTERS.

I The North Canterbury Education Board I at a meeting to day approved of a list of I seventeen subjects for submission by the I Board’s representatives for discussion at a I conference of the Education Boards of the I colony, to commence at Wellington on I September 12th, the subjects; to include I the general relation of Boards to the I Department, restrictions placed on Boards I in regard to expenditure of building grants, I training 'of teaohers, provision for'staff, | and the question of its sufSoienoy,' necessity of more assured finanoe in connection with technical education as regards both buildings and administration, small country difficulty of obtaining suitable [ teachers, classification of teaohers (including the subjects of appointments, ..promotion, and transfer of teachers), whether interchange of inspectors by arrangement between Boards is desirable, whether the system of payment on the average attend* anee should be abolished in favor of - fixed salaries, a clearer definition regarding committees’ powers of appointing teaohers, and the question of sohool discipline.
