A somewhat peculiar case was tried at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when an apprentice named Charles Davis, who bad left Napier for Sydnoy, and bod been arrested and brought back from Auckland, was charged by his employer—Robert Holt—with having absented himself from servioe before his apprenticeship wee fulfilled. For the defenoe it was alleged that the lad’s father baviog died bis mother was removing to Sydney and desired to take with her. The plaintiff having declined to allow the boy’s indentures to be cancelled, the Bonoh stated there was no option but to order Davis to rotnrn to work, and to pay the costs incurred in bringing him back from Auckland. It is slated that the oase is the first of the kind that has been hoard in the colony.
