COURT CASES.

At the Supremo Court William St. Clair, for indecent assault on a girl, was sentenced to two years ; Allan Gibson, indecent assault on a boy, seven years. In the charges against Biddiford and ethers of cutting timber on a Crown forest reserve, the Magistrate dismisssed tho informations on the ground that Riddiford did not know where the posts came from, and the contractors working for him were igDoraot that the trees felled were on a Crown reserve.
At the Supreme Court William James was remanded t'l! Monday for re-trial on a charge of indecent assault, tho jury having failed to agree. John O’Neill, for breaking and entering, was sentenced to two years’ iffjprispmeuj;. Christchurch, last night. At the Supreme. Court yesterday a juror summoned claimed’ exemption under the Defence Act, being a member of tbe defence force. Judge Deuni3ton looked into tbe Ac’, and said he was Bfraid the exemption must bo granted. He was sorry tbe man’s services were lost to tho country in one respect because he sorvod it in another. To-day Thomas Williams and John ' Collins were found guilty of burglary in Christchurch on Juno 19tb. Sentence waa deferred. G. A MacLaine, .charged with the two aforementioned, was found not guilty. In tbo Megistpate’s Coupt to-day Richard Stewart, manager of’ Mr J, C. Williamson’s Dramatic Company, was fined £5 and costs for overcrowding tbe Theatre Royal on July 12:h and 13tb. Three other charges were withdrawn. Stewart did not appear, and an apology for his absence taudered by counsel was q.cpepted by the Bench.
