THE EXHIBITION.
DISSATISFACTION ABOUT THE ARCHITECTS.
(Per Press Association.)
Christchurch, last night. Owing, it is stated, to want of considers
tion shown by the Government to the Executive and Building Committee of the New Zealand International Exhibition on the subject of the appointment of architects, matters locally are in a .oritical position, and diecontmt and irritation is likely to assume definite shape shortly. When the Government decided not to call for competitive designs it was understood that the commitioes, which will bear most of the responsibility In regard to the buildings, and will have to work out all details in regard to the exhibits, would have a voice in tho selection of architects from amongst tho applicants. Thia was’ not done, applications having been sent to Executive Committee and appointments mado from Wellington over the heads of the Christchurch Executive aud Buildiug Committee. To-day between twonty aud thirty men were set to work under the Horticultural and Landscape Committee in Hagley Park levelling and laying off the grounds preparatory to planting.
