Bayers are not inclined to make forward purchases of mutton at the present prices. Tho average prieo to-day is ; Canterbury mutton, 4|d light weights, and 43 for heavy weights ; Other North Island mutton, 4d light weights and 34d heavy weights. I weather, and the high prices are restricting business. The average price to-day of Nov Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is 5, 5-8 d and New Zealand lamb, brands other that Canterbury, 54d. The beef market is weak. The weather lately was unfavorable fot the sale of beef. The average price for hindquarters is: New Zealand beef B£d, forequarters The butter market is very firm. There are only small supplies on hand, and the stock is almost exhausted. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to day is 89a per cwt, and Danish 107. The cheese market is firm. The average price of finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 54s per owt for white and 51s per owt colored.
