A WOMAN’S DEATH

» (Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Coroner held tn inquest yesterday morning concerning the deuth of a married woman named Minnie Jane Hoey, who died suddenly early on Sunday morniDg at the house of William Mincham. Andrew Hoey, carpenter, of Riverhead, said ho was deceased’s husband, but they had recently been living apart. William Thos. Mincbam said he bad known deceased since bob was a child. She frequently came to bis house when she was hard up, and did so ou Saturday evening. He had his daughters living with him. She asked to be allowed to sleep at his house, as she was ill with a sore throat. He went to a store close by and got some Irish Moss, which, however, ohe would not drink. Tho woman was also slightly under tho influence of liquor. About daybreak on Sunday morning he went to see her, and found she was dead. In his opinion deceased,’died from the effects ofjdiphtheria. To a juryman: He crawled to the woman’s Bide at about daylight on Sunday and fbund hor dead Ho was in an intoxicated state.

Dr John Craig said the cause of death waß inflammation of tho lungs, and the conditions were those of early pneumonia. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
