I Details of the accident to the New YorkI Chicago express show that an express I known as the Twentieth Century Limited I found the switch locked at Menton. The engine left the track and fell into a ditch. The first combination car was derailed and caught fire from the engine. It next | crashed into the station, which collapsed on top of the wrecked coach, terribly crushing and maiming the passengers. The remaining cars escaped. The engins boiler burst, horribly scalding the passengers in the combination ear. Twenty-four were killed and forty injured. It is intended to revert to the 20 hour instead of the 18 hour time table, though the authorities declare that the fastest trains are perfectly safe if the switches are not tampered with.
