STATE EIRE INSURANCE

PREMIER’S REMARKS,

(Per Press Association. 1 } Dunedin, last night. Speaking at Lawrence in respect to State fire insurance, the Premier said that when the scheme was introduced some o£ the commercial men in large centres were friends of the companies, but they wore not friends of the companies to-day. "Why? The companies had decided that they would not take risks where the Government had a risk, and as a result of this boycott the premiums on warehouses had been raised by over ten per cent. .He would not be surprised to find these merchants and large warehousemen were now strongly in favor of State fire insurance, and of extending the principle much further than the Government had gone. A vote of thanks to the Premier and continued confidence in the,Government was carried unanimously.
