Received 5 p.m., May 13. London, May 13. The Australians wore banqueted at the Pavilion Ova!. All, wore present except Trumper. Lord Alverstone, president of the Surrey club, was chairman. In proposing the Australians’ health ho referred to the marked ability Armstrong was displaying. He trusted that the team would have a pleasant time, and that the same good feeling would prevail as in the past. Mr Darling, replying, said they would all be glad to see the test matches played out. It wa3 not a proper teßt if games were unfinished- A side might easily have the worst of the play as a whole, and yot win the rubber. Mr Lrtver endorsed these remarks.
Lord Alverstone said that the Board of Control fully recognised the advantages of playing tests to a finish, but counties objected to interference with their programmes. However, changes might take place in the future.
