NURSING HOME.
[(Fen r’resa Association.) Christchurch, last night. Dr Finch, district health officer, states there are 35 nursing homes in Canterbury health district, 14 of which are known to the Department in this city. Of these 12 have been lioensed or been recommended to be licensed, and two are awaiting the completion of certain alterations and improvements before being recommended to bo licensed. In licensing the private hospitals the Department depended on references fpom medical men to a large extent, I and on inspection from time to time. As the necessity of these places being licensed became more generally known to the pub lio, there was no doubt that patients at | them who had complaints regarding the J manner in whioh they were conducted, I would probably communicate with the I Department. Any license granted by the I Department had nothing to do with I mental cases, as institutions for tho treat- | ment of mental patients have to he j licensed under another Act. I
