EGG-LAYING COMPETITION.
SUGGESTED COMPETITION IN DAIRYING CATTUE.
.’(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The egg-laying competition under the auspices of tho New Zealand Utility Poultry Club was inaugurated this afternoon at Lincoln College, where the competition is taking place under the control of the director, Mr W. Lawrie. Thera .
were thirty-eight competitors, and all the birds were penned to-day, with the exception of those of one competitor, which arrive to-night. The pens were inspected by a large | party, consisting of members of the club, I competitors, and others interested, and i general satisfaction was expressed with the ] arrangements. In the function which followed reference was made to competitions of a similar character which might be carried out at the College, and the director spoke of the value that a competition in dairying cattle wonld be to the colony. The College finances would not permit of such a competition being underiaken, but he sug gested that the idea was worthy of consideration by the Minister for Agriculture. Mr Ell, M.H.R , Baid that if the Board of (lovernors of the College communicated on the subject to the Minister, he ventured to say their representations would be favorably received.
