I At a meeting of the Teaohers’ Institute I yesterday a paper was read by Mr Valen- | tine, secretary, on the inadequate payment | of primary school teaohers as compared with the wages and salaries in other employments. There had not only been no | inorease of pay since 1877, but owing to the number of small sobools the average salary bad been reduced, and the cost of living had increased. It was unanimously resolved that the executive of the Institute be asked to press upon the Government the urgent need for increasing the rates of pay of primary school teachers.
