THE AMBERLEY BURGLARY.

Christchurch, last night. John Hays and Frederick William Dennett, in custody in connection with the burglary at Amberley railway station on tho Sth inst., have been further remanded, to appear at Amberley on the 27th inst. ASSAULT ON A BLIND MAN.
Daniel Smith was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment with hard labor by tfaa Magistrate yesterday for having assaulted Leers, a blind street musician, who ha accused of being an impostor. Worda passed about some cows sold by Smith to Leers some years Bgo, and Leers attempted to push • Smith away with his stick. Smith hit him and knocked him down. A crowd collected, and but for the interference of the police Smith would have been badly mauled. TRIED TO SHOOT HIS FATHER. William Henry Francis Nott was - charged with having, on the 17th inst., attempted to discharge a gun loaded -tvitli powder and shot at his father. Ho was remanded until to-day. Bail was not allowed.
