MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

Hastings, last night, lbere are three candidates Messrs Lane (present Mayor), Dennett and Thomson—for the Mayoralty, and about 20 for the Council. Interest in the election is keen.
. Woodville, last night. Mr Heroert (Bernett was returned unopposed for the third consecutive term as Mayor. Eleven Councillors have been nominated for nine vacancies.
Palmerston North, last night. Sixteen eandidates have been nominated to vacanoies in the Borough Counoil, and Messrs M. Oohen and H. Haydon for the Mayoralty.
. Mr A. G. Bioknell was to-day returned unopposed for the Mayoralty for his second term. There are thirteen candidates for nine vacancies on the Council.
Wellington, last night. Although nominations do not close until to-morrow, sis candidates (including four Councillors) are already announced for the Mayoralty, and 38 candidates for 15 seats as Councillors, So far only nine members of the old Council are seeking reThe election takes place on the ip

" d?or the municipal nominations there are 11 nominated as Councillors for nine seats, six old members and five new - for Mayor, there are three candidates, including the present Mayor. Christchurch, last night. Amongst those nominated for seats on the City Council is the Bev. Mr Orohard, a local Methodist preacher.
T _ . Timarn, last night. Mr James Craigie was to-day re-elected for the fourth year in succession as Mayor ofTimaru. In three wards the election of Councillors will be contested. r-, ' . , Dunedin, last night. Cr Uraithwaito has been elected Mayor of Dunedin unopposed. With tho exception of High Ward there will bo a contest in all wards for three Councillors. Mr P Marlow was re-elected Mayor of St. Kilda unopposed.
T . „ r , Hokitika, last night. Mr J. A. Murdock was re-elected Mayor of Kumava unopposed., Thirteen nomi* nations were received for the Council election of that borough. Later.—Messrs Devine, Barber, Smith, and Luko (Councillors), and T. Wardeli and T. W. Hislop were nominated for tha Mayoralty. There are 39 nominations foe Councillors, Blonheim, last night. Councillors E. H. Penoy and J. B. Green are nomioated for the Mayoralty, from which Mr W. Macey retires. Thera aro ten candidates for tho nine positions on tho Council.
