The Board of Governors of Canterbury College rejected a motion to provide scholarships for Maori students, and referred a proposal for the establishment of a faculty of commerce to the College Committee. Mr Justice Denniston reserved judgment

in the case of Warner’s, Limited, versus the Lyttelton Times Company, claim £ISOO, damages for alleged nuisance caused by the defendant company’s machinery. Regarding the city finances, the Mayor stated to-night that it was anticipated at the beginning of the year that the accounts would show an improvement of £3370. Tn addition to this there had been a saving in expenditure of £2581. The Council had, therefore, improved its position by nearly £6OOO. The Council decided to insure the municipal abattoirs in the State office for £4500.
