The intervention of the French artillery saved the Sultan’s forces a bad defeat at Ujoda by the Pretender’s troops. An unauthorised congress of Russian barristers met at St. Petersburg and resolved to form an association to promote political freedom on a democratic basis. Two hundred police compelled the congress to disperse. The Sasebo Prize Court rejected the RoFCby and Lethington appeals, and the vessels were confiscated.
