QUEEB VICTORIA STATUE
BEST IN GREAT BRITAIN.
I (Per Press Association.) I Wellington, last night. I It is stated that the Queen Victoria I statue, which has heen executed by Mr A. Dru.ry, A.8.A., is on board the Turakina, I which is expected to arrive in Wellington Ito night. Mr Drury’s fee for the work is I £2OOO, and £SSO has already been sent to I him on account. Tlib committee, which I has had charge of the arrangements, met this morniog and decided to remit another £SOO at once. The total sum raised to j date is £1906 18s Sd, and about £l5O is j yet required to complete tfie cost of the statue aud incidental expenses. In a letter to • the Mayor Mr Drury says that I he is so pleased with the panels that be is I sending the original plaster casts to represent him at this year’s academy. He expresses the opinion that the statue will be the finest representation of the late Queen yet executed in Great Britain. No date has yet been fixed for the ereotion of the Btatue.
