A LUNATIC'S ESCAPE.
A DANGERODS MAN AT LARGE,
[(Per, Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A sensational, escape, which appears to have been kept very quiet, occurred at Avondale Asylum on tho morning of March 11th. It appears that an inmate named Joseph Henry White, who in 1899 attempted.to shoot Mrs J. Strathern, relieving officer to the Charitable Aid Board, for which he reoeived a sentence of eight years’ imprisonment, was incarcerated there in 1901 on account of his behaviour at Mount Eden gaol. On the morning of March 11th, after the warder had gsne round, White escaped through a window, taking a few bed clothes with him. Al-1 though the man was scantily clothed, he got away from the vicinity of tho asylum, sorrowing a pair of -trousers and a coat soon afterwards. Since then he has been seen in several places, but whenever the police attempted to catch him •he evaded them. The escapee, who is considered to be very dangerous, is still at large.
