TEMPERANCE UNION.

(Par Press Association.) "Wanganui, last night. This morning the President reported ihat a gentleman who attended the openair meeting on Saturday night offered to pay for the Opera House for Wednesday night and help .with the cost of advertising if the Convention would furnish speakers. The offer was acoepted with thanks. The reports of the literature, hygiene, and Maori work wore adopted, the hearty thanks of the Convention being acoorded to Dr Pomare for preparing a leaflet in the Maori language. It was resolved the Minister of Education be approached, asking permission to circulate the leaflet in Native schools. Letters of sympathy were directed to be sent to the Eev. P. Stubbs (Rotorua) and Mr T. Ward (Kaiapoi) upon the death of Mrs Stubbs and airs Ward, and to Mrs Miller (Napier) upon her sad loss. Resolutions wore passed as follows : Rejoicing at the increasing number of Governments entering into treaties of arbitration ; affirming the desirability of prohibiting the sale of intoxicants on all coasting boats, also on lake and river steamers ; affirming the principle of equal pay for equal work. , The afternoon was devoted to the report on the purity department, women only being admitted. The attendance was very large, and an add; was delivered by Miss Powell.
