FIRES.
I (Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night, ' A firo at Dsvonport destroyed a house owned by C. R. Williamson and oooupied by Mrs Watkinsou. The latter and her daughter escaped in their night-olothes, and saved nothing else from tho house. The insurance was £3OO, in the Now Zea- I land Office.
I A second fire ooeurred at Devonport this I morning. An adjoining house, whioh was I an eight-roomed one, owned by tho Rev. I Mr Slade and oooupied by Mr G. S. Budd, | caught fire. As the alarm from the fireI boll was not given until about 20 minutes after tho fire was discovered, the building ■ was envelopod in flames when the brigade I arrived. Mr Bndd was a heavy loser I through fire aud water. Tho firo spread very quickly, and tho occupants had very I little time to escape. Tho furniture was I insured in the Sun office for abont £l5O. I Tbo house is also understood to have been I insured.
j Pahiatua, Inst night. I News has been reoeiyed that the Waibi I creamery, neat' Waioni, was burned down I on Saturday as the result of bush fires. No other losses are reported. I Woodvillo, lost night. A bouse occupied by J. Wilson, and owned by tho executors of Lyndon, of Nopior, has been destroyed by fire. Little was saved. The bouse and furnituro wore insured for £IOOO in tho Phoenix. i Nelson, last night. By bush fires at Pokororo yesterday I El wards Bros.’ sawmill and a quantity of I valuable timber were destroyed.
