“ A STILL TONGUE,’’ ETC
I [(To the Editor, Gisborne .Times.) I Sir, —It Colonel Porter had really anyI thing to Bay about the Seddon-Taylor cass I the proper time to have said it was at the trial. What can you think of the statements of a person who silently allows a man to be accused aud says nothing ? But the case having been settled it showed exeorable bad taste to say t one word about ! it. What shou'd we tbiuk of Mr Taylor if he were now to publish, through some third person, a statement calculated to strengthen his views ? The ease is over, let it rest. But people are now saying this is a put-up job botween Captain Sed- j don and Colonel Porter lo come up here, and with the help of tho press, get in a last word. Don't you think tho Herald rather lent itself with too evident alacrity to such a use ? We don’t want to know anything from Colonel Porter about Captain Seddon, but what we do want to know I is somsthiog about the missing title.—l I am, etc., Strathnairn.
