KAURI BUSH FIRE.

AN APPALLING SCENE.

Many ridges containing odd dead trees killed by a former fire were swept by the present fire, and although I many are still intact, others have oaught and are being gradually oonsumed. Although continuing dry,- the wind has been light, and thus the fire has not ex tended rapidly. Those on the spot dosoribe the scene on' Friday night as appalling. Settlors close to the scene suffered inconvenience from staoke. Although four horses are missing,.-, belonging to, Mr Sin- . clair, an adjoining settler, they may be in I] unburned guiiies.fA Otherwise no loss of I] live stock is known, although much grass I, and rough feed has been burned. It is calculated that up to one hundred green Srees were scorched. The Kauri Com. cany’s employees are fighting the fire.
