THE HEMP TRADE.

SIGNIFICANT COMPLAINT FROM CANADA.

(Per press Association.)' Wellington, last night. The Warden of the industrial.department of the central prison, Ontario, writes jto the Premier as follows :—" When we learned that you had decided upon Government inspection of your hemp product, we felt that we could purchase New Zealand hemp with a much greater degree of security as regards quality. In view of this we considerably inoreaßed our purchases of the New Zealand product. We regret to have to-inform you that in many instances the inspection haß not been reliable, and-the average herfip now arriving from your cdlony is much poorer than heretofore. We forward you a sample of 'good, fair Wellington,Land your oxpertß can - see for themselves how far short of the mark it comes. 1 If those ebullitions continue wo will be oompelled' tb cease using New Zealand hemp. It will ruin the hemp trade of your colony.”
