LOCAL WOOL SALES.
The Gisborne Woolbrokers’ Association held their periodical sale yesterday, there being a large attendanoe of buyers, both loeal and outside. The firms taking part in the sale were Messrs Williams and Kettle, Common, Shelton and Co., Dalgety and Co., New Zealand Loan and Meroantlio Agency Company, and Messrs Bennett and Sherratt. The total catalogue comprised about 600 bales of wool, 400 skins, and about 200 hides. Prices, compared with last sales, were lower all round, ranging from Id to 2£d onfleeoe wool and Id on pieces. There was also a deoiine in locks from id to Id. Sheepskins were from Id to 2£d per lb lower than at last sales. The fleeoe wool offered was for the main part of a moderate class, rough bush sorts and seedy. Very little fleeoe was sold, but most of the pieces, locks, and I crutohings were quitted. I Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. re- I port having offered 85 bales, but the sale I of fleece wool was very dull, and most of I the offerings were passed in, probably I accounted for by the slight check in the I Homo market. Pieces 4-Jd, crutcbings 4£d, locks 3d to 4d, skins (good station lots) s£d to s£d, medium 4Jd to s£d, inferior 3d to 3Jd. Messrs Dalgety and Co. advise that there has been a drop of practically 2d all round on the previous sale. The firm catalogued about 36 bales wool and 500 skins. Top prices for greasy crossbred fleeces made 6Jd, lambs’ 6d, looks 3Jd, crutohings 4d ; skins, full wool, up to 6£d. Tallow brought 18s.
