WATER RIGHTS.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. It is stated that the difficulty betwoen she 'Woollen Company and. the Petone Borough Council, in reference to the Korokora water supply, has assumed an important phase. The gompany claimed £31,700 damages from the council on account of the latter body having taken a stream under the provisions of the Public Works Act, or in alternative performance of on agreement by the council to supply 1 up to 1,000,000 gallons of water daily. The council was allowed 60 day 3 to file a reply ~o tho company’s claim. Since the claim | was lodged, a good deal of correspondence on the subject passed betwoen the company and the council. The company holds shat a reply in terms of tho Act has not been filed by the council within the 60 days, and that, therefore, council has allowed the claim by default. It is said on the other hand that letters sent by the borough authorities constitute a sufficient reply, and counsel are now engaged in looking into tliafc P°‘ nt -
