Per Press iAssociationj I Auckland, last night. | A handsome brass tablet to tho memory | of the late Archdeacon Maunsell, the well- 1 known Maori missionary, was unveiled at j St. Mary’s Cathedral yosterday morning 1 by the Rev. A. G. Purchas. The Rev. G. | Maunsell, son of the late Archdeacon, ana I a considerable number of Maoris were | present. Canon Mac Murray said that 1 Robert Maunsell, a young Irish clergy- j man, and a great Hebrew and Greek scholar, came to Now Zealand over 70 years ago. He spent oomo months in acquiring the Maori language and prepar- | ing himself for his great work of the translation of the Bible into Maori. He worked as a missionary for 36 years and without break of work. Ia 1856 ho came to Auckland, where he took the position of incumbent of St. Mary’s, Parnell, filling that capacity for 17 years. The tablet adjoins one erected to the memory of the late Arohdeaeon Clarke, another wellknown Maori missionary,
