SUPREME COURT.

Per Press Association^ Napier, last night,

At the Supreme Court to-day Edward Joseph Ross, convicted of perjury at Dannevirke, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Peter Bartlett, charged with sheopstealing at Nuhaka, was found guilty, sentence being deferred, A native hamed Hamuera te Harare was jointly charged with Bartlett, but the foreman stated that there was no chance of the jury agreeing to a verdict of guilty against Hamuera, and the Crown Prosecutor stated that in view of the evidence and of the expression of opinion which had fallen from the jury he would communicate with the Solieitor-General for permission to enter a nolle proseque in the case against Hemuera. Benjamin Thorpe, a half-caste lad of 18, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering at Toriroa. Hopa Karangaroa pleaded guilty to breaking and entering at Taheenui. Harry Robinson pleaded guilty to breaking at Mahia. Both wore remanded for the probation officer's report. David Gibson, charged with false pretences/ pleaded guilty, but handed in a statement that he thought he had money to his credit when be cashed the order. The case was remanded for two dayß to give accused an opportunity of altering his plea if be so desired. Wi Pani, charged with sheepstealing, was acquitted.
