A COWARDLY ATTACK
(Per Press Association.) Greymouth, last night. A fracas occurred at tho Greytown City Council meeting on Monday night. A Councillor called the Mayor an opprobrious name, and was fined by the Mayor L 5 for contempt. A scnfde occurred between the Councillor and other Councillors. The police ware sent for. Wellington, last night.
The scone at the Greytown Borough Council on Monday night was exceedingly lively. After being fined L 5 for referrmg to the Mayor as a numbskull, Cr Bennett wished to speak, bu 6 w»3 ruled out of order until the fine was paid. He then said, “Hero goes,” and hurled a minute book at the Mayor’s head, but misEed. Seizing other portable articles Cc Bennett continued tho attack, but was grabbed l-y the thruat by another Councillor. Tfce Mayor seut for the police, but the offending Councillor retired beforo their arrival. The Mayor will proceed against Cr Bennett.
