INSURANCE RATES. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. Local insurance representatives are reticent concerning the reduction in rates for fire risks, but it is generally understood that an all-round redaction of a third has been arranged. One local manager, interviewed, expressed the opinion that the results would bo a decrease in managers’ salaries and carelessness on the part of insurers, who would be able to atiord larger policies, and would become less anxious when they know their properties were fully covered. RHODES SCHOLARSHIP. Charlos F. D. Cook, eldest son of Professor Cook, has been chosen as the Canterbury candidate for the Rhodes scholarship. His name was sent up last year, and he was reported to have narrowly missed election.
