(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. Tho result of the Waiotahi Goldmining Co.’s clean-up for tbe past month is a return of 1580 oz of melted gold, valued at £4267, for which 250 tons of ore and Bcwt of picked stone were treated.
The Inspector of Fisheries (Mr F. L. Aysou) arrived from San Francisco by the mail steamer on Tuesday, bringing with him a million ova of quinnat salmon and 300,000 ova of white fish. The white fish ova are suitable for the cold lakes of the South Island, and will be divided equally between Fakes Xekapo and Kanieri. The salmon ova will be liberated in the Government hatcheries at Hakatoramea. The ova urrived in excellent condition, Mr Ayson stating that over 99 per cent was good.; The University Senate resolved that it is desirable the University should have power to grant degrees of divinity, provision being mado that no assent to peculiarities of any denominations of Christians shall be required of the instructors or students. The Senate negatived Mr Hogben’s proposal to grant an additional senior scholarship annually, and to provide ono each for biology and geology. Degrees of M. 8.8. have been granted to S. G. Aitken, A. F. B. Crawford, W. A. Fairclough, Thomas Fergus, E. H. Howard, W. M. Thomson. The music committee reported that by a slight re-arrangement to the requirements of the Mus. B.A.C. degree tho difficulties will disappear. This rearrangement consists in placing the exercise required from candidates after the final exam, in music instead of before it. Tho law committee reported that the time had not yet arrived when tho University could afford two examinations a year. The law examiners were re-appointed for another year. For tho degree of Master of Law graduates must pass examination in one subject from (a) Boman law jurisprudence or international law, (b) English aw : 1 extracts, 2 real property, 3 personal property. The standard will be the samo for honors in law, and honors men will be | entitled tQ the degreo of LL.M. The finance committee roportod that the income was .£7014 and the expenditure £6937. The estimated revenue for 1905 was £7040 and expenditure £6BBO. It was resolved that the University cannot bear the expense of tho election of Bhodes scholars. Fifteen junior scholarships will be granted this year. The accumulated scholarship fund, now amounts to £20,749, of which £l-1,000 is on mortgage at 4£ per cent., £6IOO at 5 per cant., and £649 in the bank. Tho report was approved.
