A RACING APPEAL
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last nighi
Sir G. Clifford and Messrs G. G. Stead, E. Wood and Williams, acting as racing conference judges, gave a decision to-day in the appeal case in connection with the Bray Memorial Stakes, won by Stepaside at the recent Waikonaiti meeting. The conditions of tho race were that it was open to horses that had not won a race of the advertised value of 25 sovs. Earlier on tho same day Stepaside had won the Maidon Plato of 25 sovs, with 5 sovs deducted for second horse. After winning the Bray Memorial Stakes Stepaside was protested agaiust as not being eligible. The stewards dismissed tho protest, but on an appeal to tho Dunedin Joekoy Club the decision was reversed, and the race was awarded to the second horse. Against this decision Mr O. B. Wise, owner of Stepaside, appealed to the raciDg conference, which decided the case to-day, delivering tho following judgment :
The judges find that the advertised value of the Maidon Plate to the winner was 20 sovs, and that Stepaside was qualified to run for the Bray Memorial Handicap. They therefore uphold tho appeal of Mr Wise, and direct that the amount due to the winner of the Bray Memorial Handicap be paid to him.
