A SERIOUS AFFAIR.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A girl named Bose Thomas, aged 18 years, residing at Avondale, was the victim of a serious assault. She states that she was walking along tha main road, about 200yds from the Avondale Hotel, when a man rushed on her from tho darkness and seized her by the throat. He made an improper suggestion, and it is alleged threatened to blow out her brains with a I revolver which he had in his hand. He I then, it is alleged, dragged her some yards I off tho road, throw her into a ditch, and attempted to commit a moat serious offence. Some ladies passing disturbed the man, who at onos ran off. Information was given to Constable O’Grady, who is stationed at Avondale, and he obtained from Miss Thomas a description of her assailant. This morning at tho Police Court a man named John Hughes was charged with tho crime, and remanded till ( next Monday on bail.
