Ho omphasised tho mannor in which obligations were fulfilled in tho Askold case. It is understood at New York that Russia prefers inaction. RUSSIANS TAKE THE OFFENSIVE 65,000 MEN BROUGHT INTO ACTION. At Toltio on Sunday afternoon reports wore received that 65,000 Russians were massing on tho Japanese left and bom barding tho right and centre. Small forces were attacking all along the line, but wore quickly repulsed. Tho Japaueso on Saturday occupied Lintiaokoon and Likiajopeng, two and a half miles west of Chonchiehpan, the Russians retiring to the north and west.

The Japanese forces, after driving back a regiment of infantry and a brigade of cavalry, with 12 guns, occupied Saorhpon, five miles south of BCoikantai. Russian unofficial telegrams show that tbe battle at SaDdepu lasted all Thursday. Tho Russians lost 24 officers and 1600 men, and were compelled to evacuate on discovering a stroDgly fortified, concealed redoubt.
