ST. PATRICK’S SPORTS.

The preliminary meeting in connection with the annual meeting of the above sports was held last evening in the Masonic Hotel, the Rev. Father Mulvihill being in the chair. There was a large attendance of those interested in tho gathering, and the following officers were re-elected: —President, Rev T. Maiden Raco, 150yds—First prize L2, second 10s ; entrance 2s 6d. Boys’ Handicap (under 16), 100yds— First 10s, second ss; entrance Is. Girls’ Handicap (under 14), 100yds— First 10s, second 5a ; entrance Is. St. Patrick’s Handicap, of L2O; to be run in three distances, viz, 100yds, 220yds, and 440yds, with prizes for each distance and an aggregate prize of a gold medal suitably inscribed. Points for medal: First 5, second 3, third 2. First event, 100yds (in beatß), first L 3, second LI ss, third 10s; entrance 33. Second event,

Pony Race (14.2 and under), 4 furlongs —First L2 10s, second 10s ; entrance 3s. Three-quarter Mile Scurry ; for horses that have never won a race value L 5 or over at time of starting ; minimum weight Bst—First L 5, second LI Is ; entrance ss. Handicap Trotting Baco (in saddle), twice round—First L 4, second LI ; entrance ss. Handicap Hurdles, 120yds (over ton flights)—First L2, second 10s ; entrance 2s.

Pole Jump—First LI 10s, second 10s ; entrance 2s. Hospital Handicap, 220yds—First L2 2s, second LI Is ; entrance Is. Milo Handicap—First LlO, second L2, third LI ; entrance 7s 6d. Siamese Race—First trophy value L2 2s, second LI Is ; entrance 3s. Horse Jumping Competition—First L 3 10s, second LI Is, third 10s ; entrance ss. Half-mile Scurry—The same as the Threequarter-mile Scurry. Half-mile Foot Race—First Lo, second LI 10s, third 10s. In the enclosure the following events will take place : Irish Jig—First, trophy valued LI; en- I trance Is. Highland Fling—Ditto. Sailors’ Hornpipe—Ditto. Sword Dance—Ditto. There must be three entries for all dancing competitions, otherwise they will not eventuate. There will be games and amusements for the childron under the supervision of Mr Hackett, and every child will receive a prize. The Band will be in attendance.

Entries for the hoys’ and girls’ races, the pony race, the half mile and threequartermile scurries, tbo pole jump, Siamese race, horse jumping, and dancing competitions, will be received by the secretaries on the ground not later than half an hour before the time of starting, and the other entries close with Mr Ed. Williams at his shop at 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th, Horse events will be run under Metropolitan rules.
