Tho French gunboat Capricorn has arrived at Seychelles, and reports that the Baltic squadron was at Passandava on tho 20th, and was expectod to remove to a port of oostorn Madagascar to escape tho hurricano season. It is likely to remain at Madagascar until the result of the North Sea Commission is known. A special Japanese squadron his been formed. Its object is unknown. Received 12.44 a.m., Jan 27. Paris, Jan. 26. The taking of British evidence in the North Sea enquiry has been commenced. Berlin, Jan 26. The Austro-German commercial treaty is ready for signature.
London, Jan. 26. The Royal Commission reports that the Unilod Kingdom’s available coal deposits is ten thousand million tons above the Commission’s estimate of eighteen hurt, dred and sevonty-ono million tons. It is unnecessary to artificially restrict export, but various economies in the working and consumption of coal are recommended.The Ameer asks Louis Dane for a strip of land to the sea for the purposes of a railway to an Afghan seaport, considering this preferable to a subsidy, and will testify friendship to England. The wheelers’ aggregate meeting decided to resume work on Tuesday on tbe proprietors’ terms. The director of Jaluit, Gisellschaft, at present in Sydney, denies the deportation of Tntuke. The latter, a native of Oceen Islands, made himself objectionable to certain chiefs in the Marshalls, and went to the Gilberts.
