MR GEORGE STEPHENSON’S ENGLISH MUSICAL COMEDY COMPANY.
; » THE BOSE OF THE BIVIEBA.” Tho plans for tho forthcoming season of t Mr George Stephenson’s English Musical i Comedy Company wore in constant de--3 mand on Saturday, and a large sale of seats for each evening was recorded. Tho i combination will open in His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday evening next in i The Bose of tho Biviera,” and if the manifest interest evinced in the appearance of this largo combination may be regarded as any criterion an immensely successful season may be anticipated. The newcomers have mostly graduated from Geo. Edvvardes’s Gaiety Companies, and have won for themselves the highest repute on the London stago. Of the ladies, Miss Alice Nixon, the principal dancer of the company, made her debut in pantomime at tho Prince of Wales’ Theatre, Birmingham, about seven years ago, since which time she has beon almost continuously connected with one or another of Mr. Edwardes’s companies. Miss ‘Nixon was engaged for the dancing part on the artist’s model for the American tour. During part of tho New York season Mies Nellie Stewart filled the prinfiipal part of Adule. On I}°* return to London Mis 3
Nixon appeared at the Tannick Theatre. On tour tho young actcess had good parts in the “ Circus Girl,” “ The Bunaway Girl,” and the “ The Geisha.” Apart from her long stay with Mr Geo Edwardes this little lady has appeared as Little Bed Biding Hood anc| in a capital part as tho Queen in Tom B. Davis’s production of “ The Silver Slipper." Another member of tho company—Mr Charles McNanghton—also hails from Mr George Edwarde’s companies. Theatregoers will doubtless show a genuine dolight in the appearance of Mr Edward Lauri and Miss May Beatty, who have been such prime favorites with Australian audiences, and make their reappearance from 12 months’ absence. The scenery and dresses of the production are said to bo of unexampled graDcleur. The former is from tho brush of tho well known artist, Mr Harry Watte, i “ The Skirt Dancer” and ?he Dandy Doctor” wi}l be followed by tho ‘'Bose of Biviera" on succeeding evenings, and for Saturday a grand doable bill is announced.
