LATE NEW ZEALAND.
Per Press Association. Cinidtehurch, lust night. There was a narrow eseapo from a serious accident at Piuuipton Park yesterday. The platform at the top of the stand collapsed, precipitating twenty live peopio to the ground, a distance ef eight or ten bet. No one was hurt beyond a few bruises and the shcek. A number of bicycles which were stiinding beneath the sput where t-hcaeckiu ill happened were damaged.
Whiangarti, last night. Mrs Robert Thompson, wife of the exmember for Marsden, dropped dead yesterday morning.
Thames, last night. The lad Snodgrass, who was taken to the Thames Hospital suffering from concussion, it appears, was riding Sloan style, and his head striking a post as he was leaning with liis head on the side of her neck. The mare herself did not strike the post. Shortly after 9 o’clock last night Snodgrass died.
New Plymouth, last night. Tho holidays passed quietly in fine wcuther. In the rifle shooting yesterday, Private Arthur Humphries, of Taranaki Rifles, put on a good score at 200, 500, and 600 yards, Bisley targets, making 34, 38, and 35 respectively, or 102 out of a possible 105.
Napier, last night. The C.C. and D. Company have received the following cable from their London office :—“ Frozen meat market : Today’s quotations are—Mutton, Canterbury 4d, Napier, Wellington, and North Island 3;;d. Lamb, first quality 4j;d, second 4fd. Beef, hinds Oii-d, fores 24d.” At a meeting of delegates of the various local bowling clubs to discuss the question of holding the champion fours tournament in Hawks’s Bay in 1905, the following motion was passed, and will be forwarded to the Northern Bowling Association for consideration at their meeting to be held in Auckland next month :—“ We shall be glad to have the champion fours tournament in Hawke’s Bay in 1905, provided the levy system is brought into force, and tho tournament is under the management of the Northern Bowling Association and they defray tho expenses, in connection with the tournament, including refreshments on the greens.” A bicyclo accident occurred here on Thursday evening. A young man named Albert Edsor, riding along Hastings street, ran into a cab, the collision resulting in his receiving a severe scalp wound and other injuries. Ho is now in the hospital.
Masterton, last night. A man named H. Holmes was found lying unconscious on Gladstone road on Wednesday by a settler. The sufferer was brought to the hospital, where ho died on Friday afternoon. He had an arm broken and was internally injured. During semiconsciousness ho stated that ho fell from his horse. He is supposed to have relatives at Tiraunea, near Alfredton. An inquest opened, but was adjourned until Wednesday.
