CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING,
(Per Press Association.) Napier, last night,
Tbe New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association’s annual championship meeting was commenced on the Recreation Ground yesterday. Tho day was beautifully fine, and there was a fair attendance of spectators. In tho men’s championship singles Laishloy, Bradley, S. Lomurj, and J. Peacock won their games in tbe first round, and G. Cos and H. Parker in tho second rouhd. Ladies’ championship singles : Tho games in the first round were won by Mrs Pearce, Mrs Payne, and Misses Robinson, Fitzroy, Ward, Nunnelly, and Weliwood, and in the second round by Mrs Pearce, Misses Gore, Powdrell, and Brathwaitc. In tho men’s championship doubles Laisbley and Parker won their games in the first round.
Ladieß’ championship doubles: Mrs Marchbanks and Gore, Misses Berkeley and Chafloy, and Misses Gorrie (2) won in tho first round.
Combined championship doubles : Vaile and Miss Gorrie, Broad and Miss Chaffey won in tho first round, and H. Parker and Miss Nunnelly, P. Peacock and Miss Harman in the second round.
Men’s handicap singles, Ist grade : A. Kennedy, M. A. Hunter, H. Tyser, C. Margoliuth, W. Brown, Dr Porry, F. Laishley, H. Bradley, and W. Goss won in the first round.
Men’s handicap singles, 2nd grade : A. Dixon, J. Parker, B. Keosing, F. Grady, P. Pasley, R. Coates, F, Fitzroy, G. Ebbett, F. Tomoana, G. Mainwaricg, and Nelson won in the first round.
Ladies’handicap singles: In the first round Misses Wilson and Heath won their games, and in tho second round Miss B. Hindmarth scored.
Men’s handicap doubles: In the first round Nelson and Cox, Parker and Kcesing, Fenwick and Logan. Tipping and Margoliouth, Cox and Kennedy, and Inroad and Gore won their games. Combined handicap doubles : Bepre and Miss Batham, G. Bread and Miss B. Hindmarsb, Levien and Miss D. Hindinarsh, Redward and Miss Robinson, Brathwaite and Miss Beatson, .1. Hunter and Miss Smith, Goldsmith ana Miss Novell, Perry and Mrs Goldie, Cooke and Mrs Westell, and Kirk and Miss Ward won in the first round, and Logan and Miss Cottrell, Tipping and Miss Weliwood, Nelson and Miss Barker, J. Parker and Miss Dalziell in the second round.
