BOAT CAPSIZED.
THREE MEN DROWNED,
Per Press Association. Auckland, last night. A fishing party of six men went out from Coromandel yesterday. While anchored, a squall struck the boat, which capsized. Three men—James Royle, William Edgar, and Donald Calder —were drowned. The other three were rescued.
Tho Coromandel party consisted of William Edgar, James Royle, and Donald Caldor, together with three others, P. Petley, J. Kirk, and Leslie Royle (aged 12) were anchored in a yacht near Pittas Island, fishing, when a squall struck the yacht, which capsized. Petiey, Kirk, and Rovle, and the iatter’s son, struck out for the shore. Two men put off to their assistance, and rescued Leslie Royle and Petley. Calder was seen to throw up his hands and sink. Royle, senior, Edgar, and Calder, who were fully olothed at the time of the capsizing, were drowned. Royle was married, a blacksmith by trade, and leaves a wife and four children. Calder, who lost his arm some years ago, was an accountant. He leaves a wife and five young children, Edgar was a miner, aged 60, and leaves a grown-up son and daughter.
