(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, yesterday,

People’s Day of tho Canterbury A. and P. Association's Metropolitan Show opened inauspieiously as regards weather, which in tho morning was dull and threatening, A light rain foil, but it is anticipated the woathor will improve in the afternoon, as tho rain is chiefly duo to the heat. The attendance was not appreciably affectod, and by noon a very largo number of visitors arrived. Judging in all tho important departments was concluded yesterday. The chief events to-day are tho parade of prize stock, pony jumping, trials of hunters ovor fences, leaping matoh, and a parade of motor ears to tako place aftonvarcls, Later.—People’s Day at the Show attracted an enormous attendance, estimated at 24,000. The weather Was duff and overcast early in the day, and cold rain about four o’clock rapidly dispersed the gathering. The day was devoted almost entirely to ’the usual sociability, only tho light horse classes remaining to be judged of the exhibits. The Show generally is regarded as being up to previous years, anti both from the point of view of exhibits and the public patronage, was immensely The light horses were scarcely equal to the show of previous years. i There were no exhibits at all in classes for blood stock, and many of the others were poorly filled. Hackneys and hunters constituted the best section, and the winners were all animals of very considerable merit. The jumping of the hunters, owing to the wet grass, was not very brilliant, but provided abundant amusement for spectators.
